Having started this thread so long ago, I have just read through the whole lot. It seems to me that if you can't afford the "official" slats from Siggi at £120 each, then either making your own from Ikea cast-offs or using a plastic coated picnic rug under your bedding on top of the foam mattress may work just as well. Correct me if I am wrong.

I have always had a condensation problem, more so for me than my son, but then I'm heavier than him ist_skeptisch. I have the usual foam mattress on the solid base, then a memory foam mattress inside a duvet cover, then a sleeping bag - either a lovely cuddly winter one or a summer cotton one. We have the condensation problem every time - it just gets worse the more nights we sleep on it. When we are packing up to leave, we have to lift the mattresses, put them in the sun so_ja_nicht to dry and wipe down the solid wood base - but that's a bit of a hassle.

Think I'll try the picnic blankets first - cos that's the cheapest and easiest option to try first. Will report back. daumen_hoch

I think you need either something like slats to allow air to circulate or something absorbant.

OK I'll try the slats as and when I next get the chance to buy some cheap, but in the meantime, I'll try the picnic blankets this coming hol and see what happens.

Will def try the picnic blanket and have already bought 2, one as temp carpet in the living area in the Easy. I've heard that it's a good idea to put a couple of tins (beans etc) under the mattress each morning to allow it to air out w/o pulling the whole thing out.

remember to remove them before bedtime otherwise you'll end up with a modern variation of "The Princess and the pea".....

I've been on to the Ikea website and the cost of buying slats is between £8 and £11 per single bed size. The widths are 60cm, 70cm and 80cm. Assuming you would need 2 single bed sizes for the standard double layout, anyone know what width I would need to buy?

They appear to have a galvanised steel edge. Does this cause any problem inside the unit?

Thanks for that. I think I'll measure the foam mattresses on Saturday and then get to Ikea when I can to buy the right size. 245cm is OK for the width, but I guess it would be better to fit them to the actual mattresses themselves daumen_hoch I can't get to Ikea yet anyway. Don't fancy it on the way to Cornwall! Would mean I will be driving down the M5 with everybody else in the world.

Just made my list for things to do - bungee to tie down edges when folding down, 2 picnic rugs for time being, bed slats for later, under shelf storage baskets [when I can find them] and baked beans for propping up the mattresses to air them. Have I forgotten anything?
