We're back from Colorado and the Rocky Mountian High is now just one big hang-over.
But, it was a blast while it lasted.
Here's the itenary:
Kansas City on Friday and overnight with friends.
Saturday was the boring journey across Kansas to Denver.
I've never seen such emptyness. I understand more now the term,
The Lone Prarie...
"Oh look, a grain elevator! Hey, there's an overpass...

"
Arriving at Boyd Lake, near Loveland, Colorado, we pull in and pop the Combi. We hadn't got it opened up good and a couple came hurring over to question us about our camper. We got a lot of questions about our Combi last week. And they were even more surprised to hear it is 20 years old!
Visit friends in Ft. Collins on Sunday. They took us around some of the most beautiful canyons and we
forgot the camera that day.
Monday, a trip to Estes Park, CO. and the Stanley Hotel. Built by the Stanley steamer guy, it played host to kings, presidents and movie stars, and was featured in the movie
The Shining.
Tuesday, we pack up and move down and west of Colorado Springs.
Mueller St. Park starts at about 6000 ft. at the main gate.
Our camp site was at 9000ft.!
"I want to see mountians again, Gandalf....MOUNTIANS!"
And we did. We were right in the middle and on top of some big ones!
Wednesday, we were up with the sun and down to Manitou Springs to catch the Cog Railway up Pikes Peak.
Up, Up, Up we go 14,110ft. Above the tree line where nothiing grows.
And the sights are amazing!
Back down to Manitou Springs, we visited the ancient Cliff Dwellings of the Anasazi.
Thursday, we just kinda hung out at the camp ground, built a fire and cooked hamburgers.
We got brief rain showers everyday, but not enough to dampen our spirits.
Friday, again up with the sun to pack up and make the long and boring drive back to KC.
It was so long, Dixie and I ran out of things to talk about and my mind began to wander. This little ditty came out of those musings
(sung to the tune of the unicorn song)
"There were grain elevators
and long blade grass
some humpty-back oil wells
and a truck to pass
miles and miles of nothing but an o-ver-pass
that's what it's like driving 'cross Kan-sas".
After another overnight with the friends in KC, I was fully recovered, and Saturday morning, we headed off, on the last leg of our journey.
We got back just in time for the hottest days of the year here in Memphis.
100+ degrees with dew points in the 70s. (high humidity, muggy and yucky)
I'm ready to go back now....
Pics on my picture trail. See Vacation 08.
They are not in order, and excuse the old car pics, I'm a carnut and I took these to show some friends.
