Last summer I took my mum away for a week in the Combi and she loved it so much that she wants to go away again this year too. The only question is where to go!

Last year I took her to Longleat CC site as she has always wanted to go to Longleat and she really enjoyed it. The site was really good for her as she definitely wouldn't want a basic site and there were quite a lot of over 70's there for her to have a little morning chat with. There was also lots to do to interest her such as the house and grounds at Longleat, the Safari Park, Bath etc.

Mum can't do a lot of walking with her knees so we need somewhere with plenty to interest a more senior lady with lots to do in the nearby area and with nice 'posh' facilities (mum likes her comforts!) Also, a relatively peaceful site would be good. Mum would definitely not want an all singing all dancing site with entertainment etc.

I know it is a big ask but can anyone suggest an area that might be good to take her that fits these criteria! If I can decide what area to go to I can then begin to look at sites or if you know of any sites that would suit mum please tell! She really loved Longleat but I have never come across another site like that as its not the sort of place that we usually go to.

What's she like with National Trust and old houses ? mum and dad have stayed by a few and they are in their 70's.

Chatsworth CC site is nice. It's in what was a walled garden and you can walk out of the gate from the site into the grounds of Chatsworth estate. The gardens of the house are lovely, and there is some excellent cafes and a restaurant in the stables. Nearby you have Bakewell, Buxton and Matlock and all the attractions of the Peak District, including several very nice National Trust properties. Very Happy It's closed for refurbishment until 30th June though. Sad

Clumber Park is also a very nice CC site. Lovely peaceful location, spacious pitches, nice helpful wardens, good facilities. But I am not sure what there is to do in the locality (we went on bike rides but that might not be what you had in mind Wink)

We stayed at Clumber Park on the C & C C site which used to be in the walled garden. The estate itself is very interesting and there's the usual National Trust cafe/shop, but not sure what else is in the are as we only stopped 3 nights and stuck to the park, nice bike rides as Deb says.

Can recommend Moreton in Marsh c@r@v@n club site - 5 star site in the heart of the Cotswolds with lots of quaint villages within half an hour drive. Great places to eat nearby. Bourton in the Water is especially lovely. There's a wildlife park and Blenheim Palace accessible from here too. It's a busy site, though, and the most popular weekends get booked up very quickly.
I echo the recommendation for Chatsworth as well.

Thanks for the ideas. I think the Cotswolds would suit mum very nicely. There seems to be lots to see in the area and lots of tea shops!! The site at Moreton in March looks right up mum's street and it still has availability for August so I think we might try it
