Just thought I'd put this on in case anyone is thinking of taking their furry family members abroad with them. It is an extract from a posting on another forum from nearly 3 years ago and relates to costs in 2004 so it could well be that amounts have risen since then:

"Initial charges for the chip, rabies vac., blood test, passport issue was roughly £200.
Charge for ferry ticket for dog £35 return
Charge for treatment by French vet for tick/worm treatment 35 euro."

So it is not a cheap option. I knew I had read somewhere before about this and had guestimated it would cost me between £500 and £600 to take my two to France next year, which is why I decided they would be much happier in Kennels. weint_vor_lachen

Ouch, indeed.
Why on earth do they need a ticket for the ferry? They stay in the car so they don't use any of the facilities.
I never had to pay for them on the Irish Ferry when we went there, what has a Channel ferry got for them that an Irish Sea ferry doesn't have?

At those prices I wouldn't be taking them even if Stu had begged me to take them to play with Bracken! weint_vor_lachen

HI...... yes and to all that ,you will at some campgrounds have to pay exorbitant prices, up to more than 1£ a head.
wonder what expences these CG have on dogs. They don't leave black edges in the washtub, or urinate the seat,,,, just need some drinking water thats all.

On some sites there is an exercise area for the dogs with bins for the dog poo bags so I don't mind paying extra for them but no more than a £1 each. Some sites charge £4 each! And a lot charge extra and provide nothing. boeser_blick
